Huron, SD – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) announced an extension to the ongoing closure on S.D. Highway 37 (Dakota Avenue) in Huron. Starting Tuesday, August 20, the closure will expand from Market Street south to 7th Street. This extension includes the south side of the 7th Street intersection, affecting both northbound and southbound lanes.

According to the SDDOT, the current car detour along Kansas Avenue will now stretch from 5th Street to 9th Street. East and west traffic will still be able to use 4th Street, and marked detours will direct truck and vehicle traffic around the work zone. Traffic south of 7th Street will remain open.

This closure is part of a larger project, which includes grading, paving, and utility work, stretching from 9th Street South to 3rd Street North. The city’s streetscape project will coincide with the state’s work.

The interim project completion for the Market Street to 7th Street section is scheduled for November 2024. The overall project is expected to wrap up by August 2025.
