South Dakota Braces for Severe Thunderstorms with Tornado Threat

Sioux Falls, SD – Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit central South Dakota this evening, with conditions likely to intensify overnight. The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued an alert for storms that may bring large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, wind gusts reaching 75 mph, and the possibility of a few tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service, the threat is highest between 8 PM tonight and 2 AM early Tuesday morning. Residents are advised to stay indoors and be aware of their nearest safe shelters, especially if spending time outdoors.

The storm risk level for tonight has been assessed at 2 out of 5, indicating scattered severe storms are possible. As the storms develop in central South Dakota, they are expected to track eastward overnight. The weather outlook for the coming days shows continued nightly chances for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms through Wednesday night.

Monday’s high temperatures are forecasted to range from 84 to 91 degrees, with hot and humid conditions persisting. On Tuesday, similar weather is expected, with highs between 85 and 94 degrees. Wednesday will see highs from 86 to 95 degrees, with continued heat and humidity. Thursday will bring slightly cooler temperatures, ranging from 82 to 90 degrees, with mostly dry conditions. Friday is expected to be mostly dry with highs between 85 and 93 degrees.
