San Antonio, Texas – A cold front pushing across South Central Texas is expected to unleash heavy rain this afternoon and evening, raising the risk of localized flash flooding across several counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, the greatest risk zone lies east of a line from Eagle Pass to Pleasanton to La Grange, where rainfall totals could quickly overwhelm low-lying areas and small creeks. The Weather Prediction Center has placed the region under a Level 2 out of 4 risk for excessive rainfall, with 1 to 2 inches of rain likely and isolated pockets seeing up to 4 inches.

Communities including San Antonio, Seguin, and Gonzales could see travel disruptions on major roadways such as I-35 and US-90, where ponding and flash flooding may develop during the evening commute. Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads, while residents in flood-prone areas should keep phones charged and be prepared for rapid changes in conditions.

The heaviest rain threat is expected to diminish overnight as the cold front moves east, but additional advisories may be issued if storms persist. Flood watches remain in effect this evening.
