Dilley, Texas – A minor earthquake jolted parts of South-Central Texas early Saturday morning, with a magnitude 2.7 tremor striking just southeast of Dilley around 3:44 a.m. CDT.
According to the Texas Seismological Network (TexNet), the quake occurred at a depth of 12.2 kilometers and was centered roughly 7 kilometers southeast of Dilley, in Frio County. No injuries or structural damage have been reported so far.
Though small in magnitude, the quake may have been felt lightly in surrounding rural communities and along Interstate 35 between San Antonio and Laredo. The U.S. Geological Survey is encouraging residents who felt the tremor to submit reports to aid scientific monitoring.
While earthquakes of this scale are typically harmless, experts note that seismic activity in Texas—particularly near oil and gas production zones—has become more frequent in recent years. Local emergency officials recommend reviewing basic earthquake safety measures, such as securing heavy items and identifying safe indoor shelter spots.
No aftershocks have been recorded, but TexNet will continue monitoring the area for further seismic activity.
