Austin, TX – A broad swath of South-Central Texas will be under a Flood Watch starting late Wednesday night as a potent storm system brings the threat of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and flash flooding across the Hill Country, I-35 corridor, and surrounding regions through Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, an upper-level low will pull deep moisture into the region before a Pacific cold front sweeps through Wednesday night into Thursday. Storms will develop first in Val Verde County and the western Hill Country before spreading east across Austin, San Antonio, and surrounding communities.

The Flood Watch covers 17 counties, including Travis, Bexar, Comal, Hays, Williamson, Llano, Kerr, Gillespie, Bandera, Uvalde, Medina, Edwards, Real, Kinney, Blanco, Kendall, and Burnet. It remains in effect from late Wednesday night through late Thursday night.

Forecasters say most areas may see 1–3 inches of rain, with isolated pockets up to 6 inches, raising the risk of rapid creek rises, flooded low-water crossings, and urban flooding in poor-drainage areas. The heaviest rain is expected Thursday, with storms exiting the region by Friday morning.

The National Weather Service urges residents living near flood-prone areas to remain alert for potential Flood Warnings. Travel impacts are likely, especially in low-lying areas and along roadways throughout the Hill Country and I-35 corridor.
