San Antonio drivers and residents face another stretch of sweltering heat as fall weather delays its arrival across South-Central Texas. Temperatures will climb into the mid-90s Tuesday, September 9, with conditions remaining dry and sunny through much of the week. That means longer commutes on I-35 and I-10 could feel even hotter during afternoon peak hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, highs will reach 94°F Tuesday, followed by 95°F Wednesday and 96°F Thursday. Nighttime lows will hold in the lower 70s, offering little relief for those without strong air conditioning. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity during afternoon heat, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Heat will persist with sunny skies each day through Saturday, with highs nearing 97°F by the weekend. Elevated energy demand is expected, so CPS Energy customers should prepare for possible peak-hour strain. Outdoor workers, school athletics, and construction crews face the greatest risk and are advised to schedule breaks and use shaded areas when possible.

Relief remains limited until Sunday, when a slight 20 percent chance of showers may bring minor cooling. Until then, conditions remain dry, and fire danger could increase for grassy areas surrounding Bexar County and nearby Hill Country.

Drivers on I-35, I-10, and Loop 1604 should pack water, as stalled vehicles in high heat can quickly turn dangerous. City cooling centers may reopen if temperatures climb higher than forecast later this week.

Warnings for high heat remain in effect through Sunday, with updates possible midweek.
