Austin, TX – South-Central Texas is experiencing elevated fire weather conditions today, with dry air and breezy winds increasing wildfire risks across the region. The National Weather Service has issued a Rangeland Fire Danger Statement in effect from 10 AM to 3 PM for the Eastern Hill Country, I-35 corridor, and Coastal Plains.
According to the National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio, gusty winds and low humidity will create conditions favorable for rapid fire spread, with the highest threat concentrated in eastern counties. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning and take precautions to prevent accidental ignitions.
Safety recommendations include:
- Avoid driving on dry grass.
- Ensure chains are not dragging from vehicles.
- Refrain from discarding lit cigarettes outdoors.
Temperatures across the region will remain in the 70s, with cooler conditions expected overnight. The fire weather threat is expected to subside by the weekend, though some showers may develop late Sunday.
