Austin, Texas – Blistering heat continues to grip Central and South Central Texas Friday evening, with heat index values soaring as high as 110 degrees in areas including San Antonio, Austin, and Uvalde.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. CDT, impacting 18 counties from Bastrop and Bexar to Dimmit and De Witt. The advisory warns of heat index values ranging from 105 to 110 degrees, creating dangerous conditions for those outdoors.
In cities like New Braunfels, San Marcos, and Gonzales, high humidity is combining with already hot temperatures to increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. Residents are urged to stay indoors in air-conditioned spaces, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Outdoor workers and athletes should take frequent breaks, wear lightweight clothing, and limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening hours.
This is the first widespread heat advisory of the season for the region, signaling the early arrival of summer conditions.
More advisories could follow in the coming days as temperatures remain elevated across the region.
