State College, Pennsylvania – Light snowfall is expected to impact travel across south-central Pennsylvania Sunday, as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, York, Lancaster, and Lebanon counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 3 p.m. EST Sunday. Forecasters expect total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches across the advisory area.

While snowfall totals are relatively modest, the National Weather Service warns that slippery road conditions are likely, particularly on untreated surfaces, bridges, and overpasses. Periods of steady snow may reduce traction and visibility, especially during late morning and early afternoon travel.

The advisory includes the cities of York, Lancaster, and Lebanon, along with surrounding communities and rural roadways where snow accumulation may occur more efficiently. Even brief bursts of snow could cause sudden changes in road conditions.

Officials note that impacts may be most noticeable during daytime travel hours, as snowfall continues into the early afternoon before tapering off. Road conditions may remain slick for several hours after snow ends, particularly in shaded areas.

Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time when driving. Conditions may vary significantly over short distances, especially between treated main roads and secondary streets.

PennDOT recommends checking the latest road conditions before traveling by dialing 511 or using state transportation resources. While this event is not expected to meet warning criteria, travel impacts may still be significant for commuters and local traffic.
