York, PA – The National Weather Service in State College has issued a Freeze Warning in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Saturday, as sub-freezing temperatures are expected across south-central Pennsylvania, including the counties of Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, and York.

According to the NWS, frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing may freeze and burst. Residents are advised to cover garden plants, move potted flowers indoors, and wrap exposed pipes before temperatures fall overnight.

Officials note that valley locations and rural sheltered areas will experience the coldest temperatures, with readings likely dipping into the upper 20s to around 30 degrees. This event could mark the end of the growing season for many parts of south-central Pennsylvania.

Warmer conditions are forecast to return later in the weekend, but Saturday morning’s freeze will bring the sharpest chill of the season so far to much of the region.
