Billings, MT – The National Weather Service in Billings reports that heavy mountain snowfall will continue from Monday night through Wednesday, bringing up to 18–24 inches of accumulation in the Beartooth and Absaroka Ranges, including areas near Cooke City, Red Lodge, and Gardiner.
Forecasters say the heaviest snow will fall on south- and west-facing slopes above 6,500 feet, creating hazardous travel and recreation conditions through midweek. Strong winds accompanying the storm may lead to blowing and drifting snow, further reducing visibility in high terrain.
At lower elevations, including southeast Montana, rain showers are expected this evening and overnight. Those traveling through mountain passes such as Beartooth Highway and Chief Joseph Scenic Byway should prepare for snow-covered roads and reduced visibility.
Outdoor enthusiasts and travelers are urged to check local forecasts, avoid unnecessary mountain travel, and be prepared for winter conditions through Wednesday.
