Wichita, Kan. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are creating flooding concerns across central and south-central Kansas this morning, with conditions expected to ease slightly by Thursday night. Drivers in Sedgwick and surrounding counties should prepare for standing water on roads during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, numerous showers and storms will continue through today, with rainfall rates high enough to cause localized flooding. A Flood Warning is already in effect for parts of Sedgwick County until early Thursday afternoon. Winds will remain light, but saturated ground may lead to drainage issues in low-lying areas.

Storm activity is expected to decrease in coverage by late Thursday, giving way to mostly dry weather Friday. However, additional rounds of showers are possible over the weekend and into early next week, especially Sunday and Monday. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roads and to monitor river levels as rainfall totals increase.

The unsettled pattern may linger into midweek, though widespread severe storms are not currently anticipated. Updated advisories may be issued if rainfall increases again by the weekend.
