Dodge City, Kan. – Strong thunderstorms could hit parts of southwest and south-central Kansas late Wednesday afternoon, bringing gusty winds and the chance of hail. The most likely storm development is expected east of Route 283, with conditions deteriorating through the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, storms will be possible between 4 and 10 p.m. Wednesday, with isolated instances of winds up to 60 mph. Forecasters say hail is also possible, though the greatest risk remains damaging straight-line winds.
Communities from Dodge City to Medicine Lodge and as far north as Great Bend could see storm activity as systems move out of eastern Colorado. Drivers on highways, especially U.S. 283 and surrounding routes, should prepare for sudden low visibility, slick roads, and strong crosswinds.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary evening travel, and stay tuned to weather alerts. Power outages remain possible if strong winds down tree limbs or power lines.
Warnings could be updated into the evening as storms continue eastward.
