Dodge City, KS – Morning commuters across southwest and south central Kansas should expect challenging driving conditions today as dense fog lingers until 9 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, areas of fog began developing around sunrise Monday, September 22. Visibility may drop below two miles in many areas, with the thickest fog reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less in counties including Ford, Pratt, Barber, Kingman, Reno, Harvey, and surrounding areas.

Forecasters say the greatest impacts are expected in the orange-shaded region of the advisory map, where several hours of dense fog are possible between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. The weather service warns drivers to allow extra travel time and use caution while on the roads.

“Plan ahead for reduced visibility and slower travel this morning,” the agency said in its early-morning update. “If driving, use low-beam headlights and leave plenty of distance between vehicles.”

The fog is expected to lift later this morning as daytime heating increases, improving conditions for midday and afternoon travel.
