Wichita, KS – After a stretch of quiet and mild fall weather, rain and thunderstorms are expected to return to Kansas late Thursday through Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Wichita.
Forecasters say most of south-central and eastern Kansas will have a greater than 60 percent chance of receiving at least a half-inch of rainfall, with localized heavier totals possible. Areas including Coffeyville, Winfield, Eureka, and Wichita show the highest probabilities—ranging from 82% to 96%—for measurable rain and potential thunderstorms.
Before the system arrives, residents can expect seasonable conditions through midweek, with clear skies tonight and low temperatures between 39 and 45 degrees. Highs will reach the low 70s Wednesday before dipping into the 60s by Friday as rain chances increase.
The National Weather Service says showers and isolated thunderstorms will begin to develop Thursday evening and continue into Friday, bringing beneficial rainfall but also the potential for brief heavy downpours.
Drivers should watch for wet roads and reduced visibility during commutes late in the week, and outdoor plans may need to be adjusted for the incoming storms.
