Wichita, Kan. – Thunderstorms could disrupt plans across south-central Kansas by Wednesday afternoon as a cold front moves through, dropping temperatures from near 90 degrees to the 70s by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, storms may develop late Wednesday and continue into the evening, with another round possible Thursday night into Friday. Both systems are expected to bring locally heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds before cooler air settles in behind the fronts.

Wichita could see highs around 90 on Wednesday before temperatures fall into the upper 70s Thursday and the lower 70s Friday. Dodge City and Hutchinson will follow a similar trend, with Friday highs dipping into the upper 60s in some areas. Lows will range from the mid-50s to the low 60s through the week.

Drivers should use caution during peak evening travel hours Wednesday and again Friday, as downpours may cause slick roads and reduced visibility. Residents are encouraged to keep phones charged in case of power outages.

Additional updates and potential advisories could be issued as storms approach midweek.
