Wichita, Kansas – Parts of south-central and southeast Kansas were soaked overnight into Friday, with some areas recording nearly 4 inches of rain in just 24 hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, rainfall totals from 7 a.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday reached 3.89 inches in Coffeyville and 3.51 inches in Park City. The heaviest rain bands stretched from Howard to Augusta, with widespread accumulations between 2 and 3 inches across multiple counties.
Localized downpours created ponding on rural roads and low-lying areas, particularly in Montgomery, Sedgwick, and Butler counties. Travel delays were reported in parts of Marion and Reno counties as water covered some intersections early Friday. Officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roads and allow time for drainage.
The rain brings some relief to dry conditions across southern Kansas, though more showers could redevelop through the weekend. Drivers should stay alert for slick roads and changing conditions, especially during early morning hours.
Additional updates are expected if further rainfall develops later today or into Saturday.
