Louisville, Kentucky – A sharp temperature drop late Friday night could freeze exposed pipes and wipe out early-season plants across central Kentucky and southern Indiana before daybreak Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Freeze Watch is in effect from late Friday night through Saturday morning, with lows falling to around 26°F between roughly 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. The coldest conditions will stretch from Louisville and Lexington to Elizabethtown, Bowling Green, and into southern Indiana cities including New Albany and Jeffersonville.

Urban and rural areas alike face risk. In Jefferson County, outdoor plumbing and irrigation lines could freeze if left unprotected. Along the I-64 and I-65 corridors, gardeners and growers may see damage to budding trees and early crops. Fayette County and surrounding Bluegrass communities, including Georgetown and Versailles, are especially vulnerable due to recent warm conditions that triggered early plant growth.

Residents should cover or bring in sensitive plants, disconnect hoses, and insulate exposed pipes before midnight Friday. Livestock owners should ensure adequate shelter and water access.

Cold conditions ease after sunrise Saturday, but additional advisories could follow if temperatures trend lower overnight.
