Tallahassee, Fla. – Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected to intensify today across the Florida Big Bend, south-central Georgia, and parts of southeast Alabama, bringing lightning, gusty winds, and heavy downpours. The National Weather Service warns that the highest storm chances—up to 80%—will be in the Tallahassee area and along the coast, with inland locations also at significant risk.

According to the NWS Tallahassee office, storms will likely produce frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, wind gusts reaching 35 to 45 mph, and rainfall of 1 to 2 inches in spots. Short-lived nuisance flooding is possible, particularly in areas with poor drainage. The risk will peak this afternoon into early evening before gradually tapering overnight.

Residents in southeast Alabama, where rain has been sparse the last two days, will see storm chances increase as deeper Gulf moisture moves northward. Emergency officials advise moving indoors when thunder is heard and securing outdoor items vulnerable to strong wind.

Storm activity is expected to continue in varying intensity through the start of the week, with additional advisories possible if conditions persist.
