Columbia, SC – Flooding along South Carolina’s Edisto River continues to impact areas near Orangeburg and Branchville, with officials urging caution. Although water levels have begun receding in Orangeburg, the river remains above flood stage, posing ongoing risks, especially downstream near Branchville.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Columbia reported that as of Saturday morning, the Edisto River measured 13.05 feet near Branchville, with flood levels expected to persist through Monday. The river peaked at 15.34 feet near Orangeburg early Saturday but has gradually started to decrease.

NWS officials are advising residents to avoid flooded areas and follow safety protocols, using the hashtag #TurnAroundDontDrown to remind drivers of the dangers of driving through floodwaters. “Extensive flooding continues,” the NWS warned, especially for low-lying areas and roadways near the river.

Local authorities are closely monitoring conditions, as additional rainfall could exacerbate flooding. Residents should stay informed through local updates and heed safety warnings.
