Columbia, SC – A warming trend will take over South Carolina this weekend after a frigid start, but motorists should remain cautious Thursday morning as patchy black ice remains a threat.
According to the National Weather Service, wet roads and freezing temperatures overnight may lead to hazardous driving conditions early Thursday before temperatures climb. Drivers are advised to slow down and allow extra stopping distance, particularly on bridges and overpasses.
By Thursday afternoon, skies will clear, with highs reaching the low 40s. Thursday night will be cold, dipping to 21°F before the warming trend kicks in.
Friday will be sunny with a high near 47°F, while the weekend brings temperatures climbing into the 50s. Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high of 53°F, and by Sunday, highs will push near 60°F. The trend continues into next week, with Monday and Tuesday both expected to reach the low 70s.
South Carolina residents can expect a much-needed break from winter’s chill. However, caution is advised Thursday morning due to black ice. Warmer weather will dominate heading into next week.
