COLUMBIA, S.C. – A calm, mild Saturday morning sets the stage for a wetter turn as South Carolina heads toward Monday. Skies remain bright through the weekend, but growing clouds and a steady northeast breeze will soon pull in much-needed rain—and cooler air behind it.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, the next system will build across the Southeast late Sunday and strengthen into Monday morning. Showers should expand across the Midlands by midday Monday, bringing half an inch to three-quarters of an inch of rainfall. Winds may gust up to 20 mph along I-26 and I-77, where slick pavement could slow traffic during both the morning and evening drives.

Temperatures will start near 70°F on Sunday before dipping into the upper 50s under thicker clouds Monday. The rain could linger into early Tuesday, leaving behind damp streets and falling leaves—classic late-October scenery but a reminder to drive cautiously and secure outdoor decorations before the gusts pick up.

By midweek, drier air briefly returns, though another light shower chance is possible by Wednesday. The pattern leans cooler through Halloween Friday, with daytime highs near 60°F and dry skies expected for trick-or-treaters. The season’s first crisp evenings should make for comfortable, jacket-worthy strolls through neighborhood streets.

To be fair, this is still classic fall—not winter yet—but the chill that follows will feel like a first tap from November’s doorstep.
