Spartanburg, SC – Warm spring days are here, but South Carolina residents should be alert: fire danger is on the rise.

Spartanburg and surrounding Upstate counties will face elevated wildfire risk through Saturday due to dry air, gusty winds, and warming temperatures. The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook warning of fire-prone conditions, especially along the I-85 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, dry fuels and low humidity levels will combine with wind gusts up to 30 mph starting Wednesday. These conditions may support the rapid spread of any outdoor fire.

Forecast at a glance:

  • Wednesday: Sunny, high near 70°F. Winds 10 to 20 mph, gusts near 30 mph.
  • Thursday: Clear, high near 69°F. Light breeze continues.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 77°F. Still dry.
  • Saturday: Cloudier skies, high of 78°F. Slight increase in humidity.
  • Sunday: 30% chance of showers returns. High near 78°F.

Residents should avoid outdoor burning and secure outdoor flames. Stay tuned to local alerts, especially if traveling or working outside.

Next week brings a small chance of showers by Sunday into Monday. Until then, warm spring conditions dominate—but so does fire risk.
