Columbia, SC – Low clouds and pockets of early morning fog hang over the Midlands today, blurring headlights and dampening roads as another light rain system passes through central South Carolina. By midmorning, drizzle may linger across I-26 and I-20, keeping visibility limited and pavement slick before conditions begin to gradually improve.

The National Weather Service in Columbia calls for a 50% chance of rain through late morning, followed by drier air and highs reaching the mid-40s. Winds stay light, and any fog that redevelops tonight could make for patchy visibility drops near rural roads and low-lying areas. Drivers should keep low-beam headlights on and reduce speed during the early commute hours.

The weather pattern shifts sharply by Tuesday, bringing sunshine and calmer skies with highs in the mid-40s to near 50°F, then warming to nearly 60°F by Wednesday. After a chilly start Tuesday morning near 28°F, afternoons will trend milder through the week — perfect for outdoor chores or early holiday decorating before another cool-down late weekend.

Meteorologists note that while the Southeast remains mild, colder air continues to grip the Midwest and East Coast, with Arctic blasts expected Dec. 11–17. That front could slide southward late next week, setting up a cooler pre-holiday stretch across the Carolinas.

Five-Day Outlook (Columbia, SC):

  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny, high 46°F.
  • Wednesday: Sunny, high 59°F.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, high 56°F.
