Columbia, SC – Drivers across the Midlands are facing reduced visibility this morning due to patchy dense fog lingering in the region. Areas along I-26 and I-20 are particularly affected, creating potentially hazardous conditions for the morning commute. Authorities are urging drivers to use low beams, reduce speed, and allow extra space between vehicles.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Columbia, visibility could drop below a quarter mile in some areas before improving by mid-morning as the fog dissipates. A cold front moving through the region will bring cooler temperatures, with highs today reaching the upper 50s to mid-60s.
This afternoon, conditions will improve significantly, leading to partly sunny skies. Tonight, expect mostly cloudy skies with a low near 45. On Friday, decreasing clouds will make way for sunny weather by afternoon, with a high near 61 degrees.
Looking ahead to the weekend, temperatures will drop further. Saturday’s high will hover around 51 degrees, with clear skies and a low near 26 by night. Sunday will be sunny but colder, with highs in the mid-40s and lows dipping into the low 20s.
Motorists should stay cautious through the morning hours, especially in fog-prone areas and on highways. Plan extra time for travel and remain alert.
For Christmas Day, forecasts predict partly sunny skies with a high near 60 and a chance of showers. Residents are advised to monitor updates as holiday weather approaches.
