Columbia, SC – Drivers in South Carolina should brace for dense morning fog and isolated thunderstorms Thursday, creating potential hazards on roads. Temperatures will remain warm with highs in the low 70s, but limited visibility and scattered showers may impact travel.
According to the National Weather Service, foggy conditions will persist through the early morning hours before clearing into partly to mostly cloudy skies. Thunderstorms could develop late in the day, especially after 4 p.m., with rain chances lingering into Thursday night. Those commuting on I-26, I-20, and other local highways are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time to navigate slick roadways safely.
By Friday, conditions are expected to improve as rain chances diminish, and skies turn mostly sunny. Highs will dip into the upper 50s with calmer winds from the west. Cooler temperatures will dominate the weekend, with highs in the low 50s on Saturday and Sunday and lows plunging to the upper 20s overnight.
Residents are advised to plan ahead for colder mornings this weekend, particularly on Saturday night when clear skies will allow temperatures to drop significantly. The return of sunshine should offer a bright and crisp end to the week.
Looking into next week, Columbia and surrounding areas can expect continued dry conditions with sunny skies and highs in the upper 40s.
