Columbia, SC – A wet and stormy weekend is ahead for South Carolina, with heavy rain increasing flood risks along the Congaree River through Monday. Residents should prepare for possible travel disruptions as rising water levels threaten walkways and roads.

According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Advisory remains in effect until Monday morning. The Congaree River is expected to crest at 13.2 feet Sunday, potentially flooding low-lying areas near the Cayce and West Columbia riverwalks. Floodwaters could also impact nearby roads, and officials urge drivers to avoid water-covered streets.

Sunday’s forecast includes showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., followed by clearing skies and a high of 70°F. Winds will pick up in the afternoon, with gusts up to 37 mph. Monday, Washington’s Birthday, will bring sunny but cooler conditions with a high of 54°F and a low near 32°F.

Looking ahead, rain returns Tuesday night into Wednesday, with an 80% chance of showers and highs near 50°F. By Thursday, Arctic air moves in, dropping overnight lows into the 20s. Residents should prepare for a sharp temperature drop midweek.

Stay alert for flood updates and plan accordingly for changing weather conditions.
