Columbia, S.C. – A humid onshore breeze is driving scattered showers into the Midlands today, with a few brief rumbles of thunder possible south and west of Columbia. The National Weather Service in Columbia said the highest rain chances, near 40%, extend across the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA), while much of the region stays closer to a 20–30% chance. Afternoon highs should reach the mid-70s to lower 80s before clouds increase this evening.

According to the Weather Service, the combination of moist Atlantic air and weak upper-level lift will support on-and-off showers through sunset. The best window for rain will be from late morning through mid-afternoon, particularly along and south of I-26 near Orangeburg, Aiken, and Bamberg counties. A stray thunderstorm could produce brief downpours but is not expected to turn severe.

The National Weather Service advises residents to stay alert for slick spots on secondary roads and low-visibility patches during heavier showers. Outdoor plans may need brief adjustments, but most areas should see several dry breaks between showers.

Cooler and drier air will settle in overnight, setting up a milder stretch into early next week. Morning lows by Monday could dip into the upper 50s, signaling a more seasonable fall pattern ahead.
