Columbia, SC – The wind hums through the pines this morning, stirring fallen leaves across driveways and lakeshores. The Midlands wake up to a brisk, breezy start as a Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect through early Friday, marking the transition from late October warmth to early November calm.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, west winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts near 30 mph will continue through today, especially across open waters like Lake Murray and Lake Marion. Boaters should use caution—rough waves could make small craft unstable, particularly during the late morning and afternoon hours.

Skies clear into Friday as cooler, drier air takes hold. Afternoon highs reach the mid-60s, with lows dipping into the low 40s, ideal for evening walks or early Halloween decorating. By Saturday and Sunday, conditions turn nearly perfect: sunny skies, light breezes, and highs in the upper 60s to near 70°F.

Looking ahead, a mild start to November persists into midweek before longer-range models suggest the first hint of a southern cold snap by November 10–14. While not severe, the shift could bring the season’s coolest mornings so far, with patchy frost possible in outlying areas.

For now, South Carolina enjoys the heart of fall—sunshine, dry air, and crisp breezes that mark the season’s quiet turn toward winter’s edge.
