South Carolina boaters are waking up to a brisk breeze and choppy water across Columbia-area lakes this morning. The air feels cool but active, and conditions will turn rough quickly.

A Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. for central South Carolina and parts of east-central Georgia. Southwest winds will increase to 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Those gusts can whip up hazardous waves on Lake Murray and other area lakes.

Small craft could be overturned in stronger gusts. If you plan to be on the water, use extreme caution. Consider postponing lake trips until winds ease this evening.

On land, Columbia climbs to a high near 64 with mostly cloudy skies. Winds may gust as high as 28 mph through the afternoon. Secure loose outdoor items and expect a breezy drive along I-26 and I-20.

Rain arrives Thursday, mainly after 7 a.m., with highs near 67. Showers become more widespread Thursday night, and a thunderstorm is possible. Rain continues into Friday before tapering late. While this is not a cold snap, wet pavement and gusty winds could create brief travel slowdowns.

The weekend brings a welcome Weather shift. Saturday turns mostly sunny with highs near 69. Sunday looks even warmer, reaching 74 with bright skies and early hints of Spring Vibes.

Early next week stays mild, with highs near 69 Monday and additional rain chances returning by Tuesday. Longer-range signals point toward above-normal temperatures into early March.
