Spartanburg, South Carolina – Storms could roll into Spartanburg Sunday evening, marking the return of unsettled summer weather just as residents wind down holiday celebrations.

According to the National Weather Service, a 30% chance of thunderstorms begins after 5 p.m. Sunday, with increased activity expected into Sunday night and through midweek. The most immediate concern is scattered lightning and downpours, which could affect drivers on major roads like I-85 and I-26, particularly between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday.

With temperatures climbing to 92°F both Thursday and Independence Day, the heat remains the other dominant concern. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak sun hours, and ensure pets and children are not left in vehicles.

By Monday and Tuesday, daily afternoon storm chances persist at 30% with highs near 91–92°F. These spotty storms may bring gusty winds and brief flooding in low-lying areas.

The return of these summer thunderstorms may interrupt outdoor events or cookouts from Sunday through Wednesday. Have backup indoor plans and monitor alerts closely.
