Columbia, SC — South Carolina faces an active start to the week as thunderstorms and patchy fog develop across Columbia late Monday afternoon, creating travel hazards and reducing visibility through early Tuesday. Motorists along I-26 should remain cautious, especially during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service, an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms will affect the Columbia area beginning after 4 p.m. Monday, with fog expected before 9 a.m. Wind gusts could reach 20 mph, particularly during afternoon storms. Showers will continue through 1 a.m. Tuesday, followed by slight rain chances overnight. New rainfall amounts may range between a tenth and quarter of an inch, with higher totals possible in localized thunderstorms.
