Spartanburg, South Carolina – Upstate South Carolina could see severe spring weather Sunday night, with thunderstorms threatening wind gusts near 50 mph and large hail.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, scattered thunderstorms are expected across Spartanburg County from late Sunday evening into early Monday. The strongest cells could bring damaging winds, hail, and dangerous lightning between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. on May 5. Residents along I-85, especially near Boiling Springs and Valley Falls, should prepare now by securing loose items and charging mobile devices.

The storm threat follows a quiet Saturday but precedes an unsettled spring week. Rain chances remain elevated through Thursday, with another round of strong storms possible Tuesday night. Sunday’s high will reach near 75°F before clouds build in the evening. Winds may gust up to 21 mph as storms develop late.
