Columbia, SC – Cooler-than-average weather across South Carolina will give way to increasing rain chances late Thursday as a cold front moves into the Midlands and Central Savannah River Area (CSRA).

According to the US National Weather Service in Columbia, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to begin late Thursday evening, April 10, and continue through the early morning hours of Friday, April 11. Rainfall is expected primarily during the overnight and morning periods, with conditions gradually drying out by Friday afternoon.

Daytime highs will climb to the mid to upper 70s Thursday, slightly above the seasonal norm, before a mild dip following Friday’s cold front. Morning commuters across Columbia, Aiken, Orangeburg, and surrounding counties should be prepared for slick roads and low visibility due to intermittent showers.

Localized ponding on roadways and minor disruptions to early-morning travel are possible. Residents are advised to monitor weather alerts and avoid travel during thunderstorms. The National Weather Service recommends securing outdoor items and preparing for sudden changes in weather Thursday night.

By Friday afternoon, skies will begin to clear, leaving scattered clouds and seasonable temperatures in place heading into the weekend. Warmer, more stable conditions are anticipated by Saturday.
