Beaufort, South Carolina – A rare winter weather setup could bring accumulating snow and dangerous travel conditions to parts of coastal South Carolina and southeast Georgia starting Saturday morning and lasting through Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for much of the Lowcountry and nearby Georgia counties. Snow accumulations between 1 and 4 inches are possible, a significant amount for the region, especially where winter weather infrastructure is limited. Even lighter snowfall could lead to icy bridges, untreated roads, and rapid travel disruptions.
In South Carolina, counties at risk include Beaufort, Hampton, Allendale, Colleton, and Jasper, both inland and coastal areas. Communities such as Beaufort, Hilton Head Island, Ridgeland, Walterboro, and Edisto Beach could see slick road conditions develop quickly. In Georgia, impacts may extend across Bulloch, Effingham, Screven, Jenkins, and Candler counties, including Statesboro, Rincon, Springfield, Metter, and Millen.
Travel could become very difficult during periods of snowfall, particularly on elevated roadways and rural routes. Emergency managers urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel, complete errands before Saturday morning, and prepare for limited mobility if roads become impassable.
The storm watch indicates increasing confidence in winter impacts, and advisories or warnings may be issued as conditions become clearer. Additional updates are expected as the weekend system approaches.
