Columbia, SC – After a quiet stretch of weather, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Columbia says rain is set to return to the Midlands and Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) late Thursday night and continue into Friday.
Forecasters report dry and cool conditions for much of Wednesday and Thursday as the region sits between weather systems. Daytime highs will range from 48°F to 54°F today, with overnight lows dipping to the low and mid-30s under partly cloudy skies.
Thursday will bring a brief warm-up, with highs reaching 52°F to 59°F ahead of the next system. Clouds will thicken through the afternoon before rain begins spreading across the area Thursday night, with showers expected to persist into Friday morning.
According to the NWS, some moderate to heavy rainfall is possible, particularly during the overnight hours. While severe weather is not expected, forecasters caution that localized ponding or slick roads could develop during the Friday morning commute.
The weekend forecast remains uncertain, but current guidance suggests cooler, drier air will return by Saturday as the system exits the region.
Residents are encouraged to keep umbrellas and rain gear handy and to monitor updated forecasts as the timing and intensity of rainfall become clearer.
