Greenville, South Carolina – Outdoor plans across the Upstate could be disrupted within hours Saturday as isolated strong to severe thunderstorms develop, bringing a risk of damaging winds and large hail.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, storms are expected to form during the mid to late afternoon, with the greatest threat window between roughly 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. The primary hazard is large hail, potentially reaching quarter size, along with wind gusts up to 60 mph in stronger cells.

Communities including Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and nearby areas of western North Carolina such as Asheville and Hendersonville are all within the risk zone. The threat also extends east toward Charlotte, where storms could impact evening travel along I-85 and I-26.

While tornado risk remains low, storms may intensify quickly and produce brief but impactful conditions, including heavy rain and reduced visibility. Drivers should be prepared for sudden changes, especially during peak travel hours.

Residents are urged to monitor alerts, move indoors when storms approach, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Storm activity will diminish later that night, but additional updates may be issued if stronger storms develop.
