Warm spring air is already spilling across Upstate South Carolina this morning, bringing an early taste of summer to Spartanburg streets and neighborhoods. Sunshine is pushing temperatures higher quickly, and by afternoon the air will feel unusually warm for March.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, temperatures will climb near 84°F today across the Upstate. Light southwest winds increase to 5–15 mph, with gusts reaching 26 mph during the afternoon.

The warm stretch will not last long. Meteorologists are now tracking a weather system approaching the southern Appalachians that will bring widespread rain and scattered showers Thursday.

Rain develops by late morning before becoming steadier through the afternoon. High temperatures fall sharply from the morning warmth, sliding toward the low 50s by late day as cooler air pushes through the region.

Drivers across Spartanburg County and along Interstate 85 and Interstate 26 should expect wet pavement and occasional reduced visibility during heavier showers. Rain totals could approach 0.25 to 0.50 inches in some areas.

Clearer skies arrive Thursday night as temperatures drop quickly to around 34°F, creating a crisp late-winter feel across the Upstate after the brief warm spell.

Sunshine returns Friday with highs near 62°F, providing a calm stretch heading into the weekend. That break should help travelers moving through the Carolinas during the growing spring break travel period.

Saturday looks bright and mild with highs near 72°F across Spartanburg and surrounding communities. Another disturbance may bring scattered showers by Sunday afternoon.

With the first official day of spring arriving March 20, longer stretches of warm weather are expected to build across the Southeast late next week.
