Columbia, SC – A Lake Wind Advisory is set for Thursday in the Columbia area, warning of gusty winds that could reach 30 mph. Residents near lakes should exercise caution, as conditions could make boating hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday. West winds are expected to range between 15-25 mph, with stronger gusts likely in the morning as a cold front passes through. This advisory covers east-central Georgia and central South Carolina, impacting popular areas such as Lake Murray and Lake Marion.

Temperatures will peak at 61 degrees Thursday before dropping to a low of 24 degrees overnight. Friday will bring clearer skies but cooler weather, with highs around 47 degrees and lows dipping to 23 degrees. By Saturday, a warming trend begins, with highs near 52 degrees and sunshine expected throughout the weekend. Sunday will see the warmest conditions, with highs reaching 62 degrees before unsettled weather could arrive early next week.

The NWS advises boaters to avoid small watercraft during the advisory period due to the risk of capsizing in rough waters. Additionally, residents should secure outdoor furniture and decorations to prevent wind damage.
