Spartanburg, South Carolina – Fall may be on the calendar, but it won’t feel like it across Upstate South Carolina heading into the weekend. Daytime highs near 90°F will linger through Sunday, pushing heat concerns and raising the risk of dry-weather fires, especially near the I-85 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, temperatures will peak around 89°F on Friday and reach 90°F again Saturday. Winds will stay light but could gust to 18 mph Thursday afternoon, increasing fire weather risks across Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union counties.

Sunshine will dominate the skies with mostly clear evenings, making for ideal football weather on Friday night — but hydration and heat safety remain key for players and fans. Drivers should also use caution on sun-glared roadways during late afternoon commutes.

Sunday marks a turning point as clouds increase and temperatures dip slightly, with highs falling to the upper 70s by Monday. Humidity will stay manageable, but early morning lows in the mid-60s mean the warm pattern lingers overnight.

No rain is expected through early next week, but fire officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burns, especially during breezy afternoons.

Additional advisories are possible if fire risks rise or if dry conditions persist into mid-September.
