Spartanburg, South Carolina – A burst of thunderstorms could interrupt the start of June in Spartanburg as heavy rain targets the region Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, scattered thunderstorms are expected after 3 p.m. Sunday, June 1, with localized downpours and minor flooding possible. Some storms may bring up to three-quarters of an inch of rain in a short time. Drivers along I-85 and US-221 should be alert for reduced visibility and water pooling on roads between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Rain chances diminish Sunday night, paving the way for calmer, sunnier weather. Monday brings a high near 80°F under clear skies, with light winds out of the northeast. As the week progresses, summer-like warmth will dominate. Temperatures climb to 84°F by Tuesday and 86°F on Wednesday under uninterrupted sun and dry conditions.
Though air quality may briefly dip due to lingering smoke from Canadian wildfires drifting into the Carolinas, no advisories are currently in effect.
