South Carolina – Low clouds drift across the Upstate this morning as mild air settles in and roads stay quiet for now. The calm is temporary. Moisture builds quickly, and a wetter pattern takes hold as Greenville–Spartanburg moves toward the first Sunday of 2026.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures rise into the low 60s today with increasing clouds. Rain develops later tonight, followed by areas of patchy fog toward daybreak. Visibility could drop quickly on secondary roads and along I-85, especially before sunrise.
Saturday brings the most impactful weather. Periods of rain continue through the morning and early afternoon, with rainfall totals ranging from a quarter to locally one-half inch. Fog may linger early, creating slick conditions during peak travel hours. Drivers should expect slower travel on I-85, I-26, and major surface roads through Greenville and Spartanburg.
While winter weather is not expected, rapid temperature changes still matter this time of year. Wet pavement combined with cooler air late Saturday night could leave roads damp and slick. Conditions improve steadily Saturday evening as rain tapers and clouds begin to thin.
Sunday offers a reset. Sunshine returns, highs climb into the mid-50s, and roads dry out quickly. Winds remain light, making it a better day for outdoor plans and regional travel. The quieter trend continues into early next week, with temperatures holding near seasonal levels before warming again.
Plan extra time if traveling early Saturday. Use low beams in fog and slow down on wet roads. Even routine rain can create problems when it arrives quickly. Additional updates may be issued if fog coverage expands.
