Columbia, S.C. – Scattered storms are sweeping across the Midlands and Central Savannah River Area today, with heavy downpours triggering a limited flash flood risk through the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, highs will climb into the upper 80s, with localized rainfall potentially intense enough to cause temporary road flooding. The flash flood threat remains low overall but elevated in poor-drainage areas.
By Thursday, storm activity is expected to shift south of I-20, with isolated thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. Temperatures will rise into the low 90s, adding to the humid and unstable conditions.
Relief arrives just in time for Independence Day. Drier air is forecast to move in late Thursday night, setting the stage for mostly sunny skies and highs between 92–95°F on Friday. Firework events and outdoor plans across Columbia, Aiken, and Orangeburg should remain dry.
Residents are urged to monitor conditions today and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Prepare for hot conditions Friday by staying hydrated and limiting time outdoors during peak heat.
Further advisories are not expected, but weather conditions will continue to be monitored through the holiday.
