Greenville, SC — Warm, dry weather may look pleasant across Upstate South Carolina, but officials are warning of an increased fire danger through Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a combination of low humidity and dry vegetation is creating elevated fire risk conditions across Cherokee, Anderson, Pickens, Greenville, Spartanburg, and surrounding counties. Winds could reach up to 10 mph Friday, further increasing concerns, especially near the I-85 corridor.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with any heat-producing equipment. Even small sparks could spread rapidly due to dry fuels and breezy conditions. South Carolina Forestry Commission fire officials are on heightened alert and monitoring local activity.
Friday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 79°F and southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph. Friday night remains mostly cloudy with lows near 57°F. While no hazardous weather is expected overnight, the dry pattern continues through Saturday.
Saturday will remain mostly cloudy with highs near 77°F. Showers return Sunday with a 50% chance, and thunderstorm activity is expected to increase into Monday.
