Greenville, South Carolina – Drivers across the Upstate and western Piedmont are dealing with pockets of dense fog early this morning, creating reduced visibility and slower travel before conditions improve later today as a dry cold front moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, areas of dense fog developed before sunrise, prompting a Dense Fog Advisory through the morning hours for parts of the Upstate and nearby foothills. Visibility may drop rapidly in low-lying areas and along major corridors including I-85, I-26, and U.S. 29, especially near rivers and open fields.
Fog is expected to gradually lift as the morning progresses, followed by clearing skies behind the dry front. Westerly winds will increase through the afternoon, helping to usher in lower humidity and improved visibility. High temperatures are expected to climb near 70 degrees across the Piedmont, while mountain communities remain cooler, generally in the 60s.
Residents are encouraged to use low-beam headlights, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time during the morning commute. Conditions improve significantly by midday, with breezy and dry weather expected for the remainder of the day.
Clouds and humidity increase again on Thursday as a warm front approaches, bringing a return to milder overnight conditions. Drivers should remain alert this morning, as fog can vary sharply from one roadway to the next before clearing.
