Greenville, SC – Drivers across the Upstate and western North Carolina woke up to a dreary start Tuesday as patchy to locally dense fog blanketed the area, reducing visibility through mid-morning.

According to the US National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg, the fog is expected to lift by late morning, giving way to partly sunny skies and above-normal temperatures this afternoon. Highs are forecast to reach into the upper 70s and low 80s across much of the region.

Forecasters say isolated showers are possible through the day, but more widespread rain chances will increase tonight into Wednesday, October 8, as a cold front approaches from the west. The front is expected to bring cooler air and a higher likelihood of showers across portions of South Carolina, North Carolina, and northeast Georgia.

Travelers are urged to use caution early this morning, especially on rural and mountain routes where fog may linger longer. Commuters should allow extra time and keep headlights on low beam until conditions improve.

The Weather Service notes that this will be one of the final warm stretches before cooler autumn air settles in later this week.
