Columbia, SC – Drivers in Columbia should prepare for another stretch of hot, dry weather as September temperatures rise close to 90°F Wednesday. Morning calm winds will shift northward by afternoon, making afternoon travel warm and potentially uncomfortable for those without shade or hydration.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, Wednesday’s high will top out near 85°F with light breezes at 5 mph. Roads like Interstate 20 and US-378 will heat up quickly by midday, making car interiors dangerously hot. Motorists are urged to carry water and never leave children or pets unattended in parked vehicles.

Wednesday night will stay mild, with lows dipping only to 64°F under mostly clear skies. On Thursday, highs push higher to 89°F before climbing into the lower 90s by Friday and Saturday. Each day will feature sunshine with light winds, keeping conditions dry but uncomfortable for prolonged outdoor activity.

Outdoor workers should take frequent breaks, apply sunscreen, and drink plenty of water. While no storms or rain are expected, the continued dry weather may also impact lawns and gardens across Richland and Lexington counties. Evening skies will remain clear and pleasant, though warm nights in the mid-60s provide little relief from daytime heat.

Conditions stay steady into early next week, with highs in the low 90s and no significant weather threats expected.
