Columbia, S.C. – A cold front sweeping across South Carolina on Sunday is creating a sharp temperature divide and bringing the risk of late-day storms, particularly south and east of Interstate 20. Residents in Columbia, Orangeburg, and Sumter could see passing showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, the front is producing a northwest-to-southeast gradient, with cooler air pushing into the Upstate and warmer, storm-fueled conditions lingering toward the coast. Highs will range from the upper 70s near Newberry to the upper 80s closer to Florence and Charleston.

The main storm threat is expected along and south of I-20, with heavy downpours and brief gusty winds possible during the evening commute. Drivers are urged to use caution on wet roads and avoid flooded low spots.

Conditions are forecast to clear by late tonight, with a stretch of dry weather dominating the workweek across the Midlands and beyond. Cooler mornings and seasonable afternoons will be the trend through midweek.
