Columbia, SC – Residents across the Midlands and the Central Savannah River Area are waking up to a frigid Veterans Day, with early morning temperatures dipping into the 20s and brisk winds making it feel even colder.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, conditions will gradually warm through the day, but highs are only expected to reach the upper 40s, leaving a chilly feel for outdoor events and ceremonies honoring veterans. Winds will remain breezy but lighter than Monday, providing a slightly more comfortable afternoon despite the cold start.

The NWS advises anyone heading out early to bundle up in layers and allow extra time for frost on windshields. While skies will stay mostly sunny, the air remains dry and cool, with temperatures expected to fall back into the 30s after sunset.

The agency shared a temperature chart showing the coldest conditions between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., when much of the region will remain below freezing. Communities including Columbia, Aiken, and Sumter are all expected to see similar cold trends through the morning.

Warmer temperatures are forecast midweek, with highs returning to the 50s by Wednesday and Thursday.
