Greenville, South Carolina – Cold air and strong northwest winds are combining to make today feel sharply colder across the Upstate, with blustery conditions expected to impact travel, outdoor plans, and higher elevations through the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, high temperatures will struggle to climb out of the upper 40s to lower 50s across most lower elevations, while widespread wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph are expected throughout the region. Gusts could reach up to 50 mph along the higher terrain, prompting a Wind Advisory for elevations above 3,500 feet.

The strongest winds are expected along the Blue Ridge Escarpment and across mountain communities in northern Greenville, Pickens, and Oconee counties, as well as parts of Henderson and Polk counties just across the border. Even across the Interstate 85 corridor, including Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and Greer, persistent gusts will make it feel colder than actual temperatures.

Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution on exposed roadways, especially along mountain highways. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and dress in layers to protect against the cold wind.

Winds are expected to gradually ease later tonight, but chilly conditions will linger. Additional advisories may be issued if gusts strengthen or persist longer than expected.
